We started making personalized pet urns because our neighbor had several plain wooden boxes that held the remains of her dear kitties.
We made her a ceramic urn, with her cats photo on the front and she was so thrilled with it that we decided to start making them for others.
We are HUGE animal lovers, and we love our pets deeply. We know how sad it is to lose a beloved pet.

Dealing with the loss of a pet is a hard thing. An urn could be helpful, also a pet memorial plaque with a photo of your dog could bring a measure of closure or even both if you wish.

I understand why Ms. Simpson would turn to social media for support after a painful pet loss. You can get such immediate floods of encouragement, commiseration and sympathy, it can feel like a hug. Every step of my pets' illnesses and/or demise was shared with caring friends and family via email/Facebook, etc. Through my work as an animal chaplain, I offer to post photos and tributes to pets who've passed on on my blog's memorial page. It's an important part of healing to be able to memorialize and celebrate a pet's life and know others can learn of that pet's importance for years to come. When I wrote "Good Grief: Finding Peace After Pet Loss," it was in part because the 30 humans that attended my Westie Ludwig's memorial service urged me to write a book about how to do that for a pet. It grew into much more than that, but the need for ways to memorialize a pet in order to honor its life and move on with our own was a chief impetus.

I would prefer to get a plaque that would hang in my house as I feel like it would be in the way in the yard. I mean that in the yard you would have to constantly move it when you mow the lawn and I feel like that would desecrate the burial and defeat the point of remembering your animal. In the house you can see it everyday instead of having to go out and remember where you buried it.

I babysit for two young girls who recently had a cat die. They are devestated still as its their first pet. I could sense they wanted to talk about it so we did and I helped them explain the good things they remember about the cat, the fun times with it so they felt better instead of just dwelling on the sadness. We then made a picture to "give" to their princess after which I buried it near the resting place of the cat. The girls are so excited that they made something for their pet, its their own way to memorialize their cat.

Often older adults feel like their world is at a standstill after the death of their spouse as they spent so much of their lives growing together so they often turn to pets to fill some of that loneliness. I feel like after losing a spouse the pet leaving is almost harder because you feel like you can't give much more for fear of losing everything you have. A pet urn will bring back memories and its concrete you can see it daily as opposed to burying your pet and only seeing it part of the time.

I like the idea of the urn as I will definitely be moving at least 4 times in the next 2 years and I wouldn't want to leave my pet as it was such a big part of my life. I like the idea of a wooden one that has pictures so I can even more visually see and remember my pet. Although the picture thing is what if the picture doesn't fit and I see the remains that might creep me out, guess i'll have to research earns more.
